The BSME Awards has a New Website:
Go to: www.bsme.com
The BSME is the only society in the UK exclusively for magazine and website editors and senior editorial staff. For a number of years this was the official website for the BSME Awards.
Content is from the site's 2010 - 2015 archived pages offering a glimpse of the early years of the award.
The current website for BSME is found at www.bsme.com
where you can learn more about the organization and sign up to become a member.
The goal of BSME is to represent the needs and views of all editors thus providing a strong, clear voice for our industry. Members of BSME have the opprtunity to meet regularly with editors from many top magazines. BSME also hosts regular breakfast forums and evening speaker events so members can network in some of London’s most exciting venues and hear from some of the best magazine editors in the world.
"On the day of this event, we were closely monitoring the startling decline of XLollipop, a once prominent tech firm, following an onslaught of negative press and an alarming rate of employee desertions. There were rampant rumors in the gossip press of shady dealings between XLollipop executives and characters from London's underworld. CB Johnson, a top executive at XLollipop, vehemently denied these allegations and any attempts to suppress them.
In fact, it came to light that Johnson's office had even considered invoking the EU law known as 'the right to be forgotten.' Under this regulation, individuals can request that search engines like Google delist certain results about them. This powerful law has been used to protect privacy, but in this case, the intended application was more contentious. They aimed to remove some of the harmful news from Google's search results, in what some might see as an effort to rewrite history rather than protect privacy.
The removal expert they engaged for this task was highly respected in the search world, typically working to improve search results rather than suppress them. However, this project had a different aim: to push the negative news down by optimizing other sites to outrank the problem result. XLollipop ended up paying to try this strategy, but it was only a temporary fix.
Despite these efforts, the story continued to gain momentum and was picked up by hundreds of new outlets. The 'right to be forgotten' could not protect XLollipop from the strength of the story or the court of public opinion. The controversy far outlasted the attempt to hide it, marking the end of a tech giant. RIP XLollipop." - Thomas Peters
