GENERAL RULES
To enter you must:
Be a magazine/magazine website editor (you don’t need to be a BSME member)
Have edited your title for a minimum of six months during the period 1
August 2010 to 31 July 2011. If entering the launch category you must have edited your title for four months during the period 1
April 2010 to 31 July 2011.
Only submit issues (or their contents) that you have edited
Acting editors may not enter and periods spent as acting editor will not be considered
The majority of magazine distribution/circulation must be in the UK
Magazines /magazine websites must be published in English
Only websites produced by British companies and organisations are eligible
Websites must either have a sister title in print or feature largely magazine content. Blogs
are not eligible.
E-magazines should enter the website category
Apps should enter the innovation/brand-building category
Customer magazines may compete in a different editor of the year category if they feel it is more appropriate
Student magazines are not eligible
Should a magazine be suspended or closed prior to the Awards Dinner Presentation on 8 November 2011, the
entry will be withdrawn
The BSME reserves the right to re-allocate or refuse entries where appropriate and will
inform the editor/s of the title/s concerned. The decision of the BSME Committee is final
Awards are presented to the editor, art director, website editor or columnist of the magazine
For all awards, editorial members of the panel of judges are excluded from entering any
magazine they edit on a day-to-day basis. If they are an editor-in-chief and there is another
named editor for a title, that editor may enter
Editorial judges are eligible to be nominated for the editors’ editor of the year category
If you edit or art direct more than one title, you may enter each title
If you are entering more than one award, please ensure that you submit a
complete set of material for each entryCOST OF ENTERING
There is no charge for members of the BSME to enter any of the award categories
There is a single entry fee of £150 inc. VAT for non-members of the BSME, no matter how
many categories are entered and including the art directors’ categories. This includes
membership of the Society until the end of 2011
There is no charge for a magazine editor, whether or not he/she is a member of the BSME,
to make a nomination for the editors’ editor of the year category
Entries from non-members must be accompanied by credit
card details or a cheque made payable to The British Society Of Magazine Editors, or they will not be acceptedHOW TO ENTER
It’s simple to enter. Just:
1. Complete and print the entry form
2. If you are not currently a member of the BSME: pay online or send a cheque with your entry
3. Print off and complete the entry form. Make the required number of copies; retain one for your records and send the others to the BSME with the relevant supporting material (and payment if appropriate)
4. Mark your entry ‘BSME Awards’; add the name of your own magazine/magazine website and send it to:

Entries will be accepted only between 10.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
Incomplete entries will not be processed
